Kielder Observatory

In December 2023 I visited Kielder Observatory, Beaufort Park Hexham, to meet staff members of the observatory to the discuss an art and science project I was researching. It also provided the opportunity to hear presentations from astrophysicists, physicists and mathematicians and possibilities for artistic interpretation.
That evening a late-night programme ‘The Dark Cosmos’, took place where we stargazed the night sky and experienced astronomy and gained greater appreciation of the observatory’s experimental approach to research. The event inspired ideas for art and science collaborations, this helped to shape the direction of my evolving project. It also led to connections with other institutions such as University Newcastle of Northumbria University contributing to partnerships which supported a research grant offer.
